| Greetings Friends!
2006
2006 was an adventurous year. Hundreds of miles of continued explorations
throughout my home state of California, along the coastline as
well as in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. This year was my first
visit to the Washington state and Olympic National Park to photograph
the rain forest as well as the coastal areas. There was a journey
to Cape Churchill in Manitoba to photograph the wonderful Polar
Bears of the Hudson Bay and its snowy Arctic tundra landscapes.
The last expedition of the year began in the Falkland Islands off
the tip of South America and culminated with a circumnavigation
of South Georgia Island below the Antarctic convergence. Spectacular
landscapes beyond imagination, huge colonies of sensational king
penguins, as well an abundance of other wildlife were discovered
and documented on this voyage.
Each of these locations, I met with the rising sun. My days were
shaped by the quality of light, driven by my awe for the diverse
beauty of these inspiring places. In the twilight, under the stars,
long after a setting sun behind a horizon, you can find me outside
with a full pack of cameras on my back. Traveling across the earth
I am thinking of how next year I can contribute more to preserving
the earth that provides us with such magnificent gifts.
2005
2005 was an exciting year. Continued journeys along California’s
coastline always call me to its shores, as well as to the mountains
of the Sierra’s culminating in a climb up backcountry wilderness
to the summit of California’s highest peak-Mt. Whitney. Early
autumn travels were to Alaska, first to the Katmai peninsula to
visit with the magnificent brown bears and then to Denali to the
colorful tundra and towering snow capped Mt. McKinley. It was time
to return to Europe with journeys to Venice and Tuscany in Italy,
as well as the small island of Santorini in Greece, to appreciate
the beautiful countryside as well as the unique architecture of
the regions. Autumn in New England provided the opportunity of
beautiful seasonal colors in Vermont and the offshore island of
Nantucket. This year was my third trip to Africa. Having lived
in South Africa for many months, as well as Morocco to the North,
it was time to explore Kenya. Africa provided endless occasions
for both landscapes and wildlife existing harmoniously in abundance.
Thank you for collecting and for sharing these special places
together. Please preserve, protect and enjoy this incredible world
of ours.
I wish for you and your family much health, happiness and wonder
for this coming year!
Robert
